Governor Dr SS Sidhu today formally inaugurated the "Project Orchid for HIV prevention in Manipur" at the State Guest House today.
The project is being supported by Avahan and the Bill-Melinda Gates Foundation, India AIDS Initiatives at an estimated project cost of $ 5 million (Rs 23 crores).
Speaking as the chief guest at the function, Governor Sidhu said that the Government alone cannot combat this dreaded disease which have afflicted millions of people and therefore need the support and cooperation of all the NGOs, politicians and media-persons in preventing the disease from wreaking further havoc among the people as no cure could found currently to cure the deadly disease.
Number of HIV casualties will increase if we do not unite and put up a concerted effort to prevent the disease from taking epidemic proportion, added the Governor.
In his presidential speech CM O Ibobi lauded the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation AVAN India AIDS Initiatives, Australian International Health Institute and Emmanual Hospital Association for launching such projects in Manipur and Nagaland and further assured to extend all possible State Govt help in implementing the project.
