As per the decisions of the Annual General Assembly (GA) held at Commissioners Guest House, Dimapur on January 7 and 8, the Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR) has appointed a new team of the Executive Council (EC) for the year 2005.The Council will oversees the work of NPMHR giving policy inputs in between GAs and direction to the decisions taken during annual General Assembly.
In a statement NPMHR reiterated its earlier resolution to continue reasserting its stand on total repeal of AFSPA.
It said that the current initiative for reviewing the AFSPA with the intent of giving a humane face and within a limited period is not justifiable and it feels the need of a critical process where in an in-depth discussions and consultation with all people affected by this extraordinary legislation participates and contributes.
Citing the Oinam atrocities (1987) case filed by NPMHR, the statement said it still remains subjudice, awaiting the final pronouncement after hearing 10,000 pages documentation.
A 21 member delegation of NPMHR also interacted with the NSCN collective leadership at the GHQ on the December 28 2004, wherein the members expressed the Naga people�s yearning for a just and sustainable peace in the Naga homeland and its commitment towards this end.
