July 23 BT Road firing Sanjit's brother deposes before Court

Elder brother of Chungkham Sanjit and a woman street vendor of Khwairamband Keithel today gave their statements as prosecution witnesses of CBI regarding the July 23 Khwairamband Keithel firing incident before the Session Court, Imphal West.
Momocha Chungkham (36) s/o Ch Khelen of Khurai Sajor Leikai who appeared as a prosecution witness of the CBI trial case against Y Munal and eight others recounted before the Court that the dresses which were worn by his brother Chungkham Sanjit on the day of the incident were handed over to him from RIMS morgue after post mortem.
The said dresses were kept under a tree growing inside their residential compound as their family members were informed by some human rights activist that they would come and collect the dresses.
But none of the human right activists turned up to collect the dresses which were later disposed at Imphal river.
Another prosecution witness of CBI, Kshetrimayum Manitombi Devi, a street vendor of Khwairamband Keithel also gave her statement before the Court.
She submitted that in the morning of July 23, 2009, she was selling vegetable on a side of BT road and suddenly at around 10.30 am, she saw people running here and there and when she looked around, she saw a woman lying in a pool of blood along BT road and a child was seen crying beside the dead body.
One lady CRPF personnel took up the child and handed it over to Memma Devi, a leader of Khwairamband women vendors.
Three alleged accused of the trial case namely Y Munal, Hijam Devendra and Md Imran Khan, however, failed to appear before the Court.
The Court later fixed February 3 as the next date for submission by further prosecution witnesses.
It may be mentioned that after the firing incident of July 23, 2009 at Khwairamband Keithel which claimed the life of pregnant Rabina and Chungkham Sanjit, the case was handed over to CBI for investigation by the State Government after sequential photographs of the incident were published in Tehelka magazine.
After investigation, CBI submitted charge sheet against the then City Police OC Y Munal and eight other police personnel of Imphal West district police including Head constable Th Herojit who had confessed to killing unarmed Chungkham Sanjit inside Maimu Pharmacy on that day under the instruction of his superior officers before media last year.
So far, Chungkham Taratombi, mother of Sanjit, Dr AK Jhalajit SP Imphal East, Human Rights Alert Director Babloo Loitongbam, founder cum Editor of Tehelka Magazine Tarun Tejpal, former managing director of Tehelka Magazine Soma Choudhary and others have given their statements before the Court.
