Jiribam, January 16 2017:
Chiru Sporting Club (CSC) emerged the champion of the 26th KC Mallick Memorial Football Tournament trouncing Western Jiribam Football Club (WJFC) 3-0 in the final of the tournament played today at the playground of Jiribam Government Higher Secon-dary School.
Chongneikhum of CSC did the star turn scoring a hat trick to help his team carve out the comfortable win.
Going on the offensive from the first whistle CSC made their intentions clear by playing an open and flowing game and penetrating deep into the defence line of the rival team.
Hardly had the players from WJFC settled down when CSC broke through their defence line with some fast moves.
Tearing apart the defence line of WJFC, the ball went to an unmarked Chongneikhum, who had little trouble in tapping the ball past the outstretched hands of the rival custodian and helped his team CSC take an early lead in the first minute of the match.

The early goal did not lull the players of CSC and they kept up the pressure with some fast runs down the flanks and clever passing in the middle.
The defence line of WJFC were stretched to the limits, but they managed to keep the marauding forward line of CSC at bay.
The onslaught however continued, with the midfielders of CSC repeatedly finding the gaps and initiating some penetrative moves.
The second goal came in the 25th minute of the first half, through a series of precise passes and quick running.
A long ball from the right flank saw Chongneikhum in the midst of action once again and latching onto the ball neatly he managed to outstep a couple of defenders of WJFC and let loose a power packed shot that beat the custodian of the rival team hands down in the 25th minute, to help CSC take a comfortable 2-0 lead.
The lemon break was taken with CSC taking a comfortable 2-0 lead.
After the lemon break WJFC put more men in the attack and tried to come back into the match.
Their efforts however went in vain as the defence line of the rival team put up a tight front and thwarted all their moves.
On the other hand, CSC relied on quick counter attacks which managed to catch the defence line of the rival team on the wrong foot on a couple of occasions.
The third goal for CSC came against the run of play, as they quickly launched a quick counter attack.
Co-ordinating well in the mid field, the forward line of CSC found the gaps in the defence line of the rival team and they managed to enter the danger area.
A long ball was latched onto by Chongneikhum and after positioning himself well unleashed a power packed shot that disturbed the net in the 75th minute.
For his brilliant three goals in the final, Chongneikhum walked away with the best player title.
