Thoubal police seize liquor worth Rs 1.5 lakh

Thoubal, January 16 2017:
As per the directive of ECI to police to check and ban the selling of liquor ahead of the ensuing Assembly election, Thoubal police today seized a large quantities of Indian made foreign liquor and local made liquor worth Rs 1.5 lakh from Thoubal Bazar.
Thoubal police led by SP M Pradip, Additional SP (LO) W Singajit, SDPO Th Sankerdeba, OC RK Tejbir and Excise OC L Dina conducted a raid at the residence of Soibam Ibotomba, s/o S Ibomcha at around 3 pm today.
S Ibotomba is the owner of Bokajan Hotel at Thoubal Bazar.
407 whiskey bottles, 96 rum bottles, 60 beer bottles and 120 beer cans were recovered during the drive.
On the other hand, around 100 litres of liquor seized by Kairembikhok Students' Union and Club (KSUC) was destroyed today, reports our correspondent.
The liquor was seized during a drive undertaken by KSUC under the initiative of CADA.
KSUC secretary general Surchand Usham said that the drive was conducted so as to ensure the upcoming election is held peacefully.
Any candidate who indulges in activities that can disrupt the peaceful atmosphere should be held responsible for any untoward incidents.
