Imphal, January 16 2017:
Liwa Sarei-A notched up a comfortable win in the ongoing Sirti Football Tournament organised by Sirti Olympic Association at Liwa Sarei football ground today at Chandel.
Taking the field in a positive frame of mind, the young players of Liwa Sarei-A adopted a free and flowing game and they managed to test the defence line of Monsang Pantha-C occasionally stretching their defenders.
Soon the positive and free attacking style started yielding dividends with the forward line of Liwa Sarei-A finding the gaps a couple of occasions.
Off one such move, the ball went to R Mitchell near the penalty box in the 18th minute.
Neatly controlling the ball, Mitchell dribbled past a couple of defenders and beat the custodian with a well placed shot to help his team take a 1-0 lead.
Not resting on the early goal, Liwa Sarei continued to attack and find the gaps and R Mitchell was once again at it, when he managed to find the net in the 29th minute to increase the lead.
The third goal came two minutes later when the ball went to an unmarked Sh Joyphasing in the 31st minute and he made no mistake in tapping the ball home.
In the 11th SOA Football Veteran, Liwa Changning notched up a comfortable 2-0 win against MEELEN today.
Dominating from the first whistle, Liwa Changning managed to toy around with the players from MEELEN repeatedly breaching their defence line.
Off one such offensive, TS Nanda latched onto the ball and managed to beat the custodian of MEELEN with a rasping shot in the 27th minute.
The second goal came in the 51st minute through Sh Sylvia.
In another match, Japhou and Changhne played out a dull goalless draw.
