Five persons suspected to be KNA members were killed in a gun-fight with KNF cadres in the early hours today at Pheijang village of Sadar Hills under Sapermeina police station.
According to police source, the fierce clash broke out at the break of dawn and the five bodies were recovered by a joint team of police and 14 Assam Rifles later in the morning.
Informing that the corpses have been brought to RIMS morgue for identification, the source said one G-3 rifle, an M-16 rifle and another SLR were recovered from the encounter site.
Acting on villagers' speculation that there might be more than five casualties, the security team began search operation in the nearby jungles.
One Hensei Haokip (19) of Anting village in Senapati district who suffered bullet wounds on the back and leg areas has been admitted to RIMS Hospital.
