Imphal, October 12 2016:
Transporters' and Drivers' Council (TDC) has ridiculed BJP Manipur Pradesh spokesman RK Ranjan's statement that the dilapidated sections of Imphal-Jiribam highway near Makru bridge would be fully repaired by December 15 after TDC has amassed several tonnes of stone at Langjing Achouba truck parking for repairing the dilapidated sections following an agreement with the State Government.
Speaking to media persons at their MG Avenue office today, TDC president H Ranjit appealed to all political parties not to politicise Imphal-Jiribam highway.
The BRO men whom the State BJP team met were road Mohoris, not any high ranking official.
The assurance given by the road Mohoris to complete the highway repairing work by December 15 is quite unlikely.
BRO set a dozen deadlines earlier to complete different sections of the highway but they could never meet their own deadlines.
As if he was spokesman of BRO, RK Ranjan was saying that vehicles heavier than 18 tonnes were moving on the highway; there was scarcity of highway construction materials and no compensation was given when any section of the highway broke down due to movement of heavy vehicles transporting construction materials for the railway project, Ranjan remarked.
It has been decades since BRO has been constructing/ maintaining Imphal-Jiribam but it is still far from being a National Highway.
At the same time, the Government of India never paid any attention to the pathetic condition of Imphal-Jiribam highway.
Subsequently, TDC approached the State Government and they agreed to repair the dilapidated sections of the highway to a passable level in public interest, Ranjit said.
He went on to challenge that BRO would never be able to repair the highway by December 15 .
