The State Government has refuted allegations that the Chief Minister was interfering into the reservation row at Manipur University.
Government spokesman and Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister M Okendro stated that there was no case of the State Government ever interfering in the academic activities and other functions of Manipur University.
With regard to the reservation imbroglio, the Chief Minister held a meeting with the MU VC in-charge, Registrar in-charge and other top ranking official of the university on October 10 .
Taking serious note of the issue which has the potential to snowball into a major issue and a serious law and order problem apart from disrupting the university's normal functions and polarisation of people on communal lines, the Chief Minister assured to extend all possible assistance towards resolving the issue even though ! Manipur University is a Central university.
Other than this, the Chief Minister did not give any instruction to the MU authority to do this or that, Okendro clarified.
