Imphal, January 12:
Accusing the Indian security force of letting loose a reign of terror in the name of CI-ops, the proscribed UNLF today said that Saikhom Samungou (20) and Sanasam Ngngo (15) who were killed by the security personnel were not members of the UNLF as claimed by the Army but innocent students.
In a statement, UNLF said that the two students were killed following a shoot out with the MPA at Bunghol Khullen village on January 10.During the shoot out one MPA cadre was killed admitted UNLF and named him as Pte Thiyam Maiba alias Sunder of Thiyam Konjin Mayai Leikai.
One AK-47 rifle was also taken away by the Indian security force, it added.
Strongly reacting to the statement issued by the PIB Defence Wing which said that the MPA cadres were harassing local villagers by forcibly taking away their rations and essential items, UNLF said that the allegations were nothing but attempts to mislead the outside world.
To nullify the independent reports carried in the State dailies, the Indian army resorted to damage control exercise and distributed some left over rice, medicines and a handful of clothes to the villagers.
Such tactics will never be able to win over the hearts of the people, said UNLF.
Throwing an open challenge to the Indian Govt, UNLF said that representatives from the International Committee for Red Crescent and Red Cross may be invited to visit the affected areas to know the facts.
Hitting hard on the Indian army, the statement said that one major weakness of the security force has been exposed.
Elaborating, UNLF said that the inability of the Indian army to honour their dead and wounded soldiers is akin to forgoing their moral ethics and military regulations.
This proves that the Indian army has been using their soldiers not to fight for a cause but for money.
