Taking serious note of outbreak of factional clashes among armed outfits both hill and valley districts over the past few days causing casualties to even common people, State Government has decided to tighten up the security measures all over the State, said a reliable source.
The decision was taken during a high level meeting of the police and civil officials yesterday convened in the back drop of the recent killing of a student by KNA ultras at a spot between Molnom and Pashang villages in Ukhrul district on January 7 and the escalating factional clashes risking the lives of the civilian population, the source informed.
Chief Secretary Jarnail Singh and DGP in-charge and ADGP (Law and Order) W Joykumar were among the top police and civil officials who were present at the meeting presided over by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh today.
Although security has been alerted following complaint of quit notice served to Thawai Kuki Village in Ukhrul district by NSCN (IM), the State Government decided to tighten the security taking into account of the recent report of killing of two persons at Sugnu Bazar in Thoubal district on Dec 31 and fresh outbreak of factional clashes in some parts of the valley districts.
It may be mentioned here that five cadres of PREPAK were killed in fierce gun fight between the factions of the outfit at Khordak Ichin on the night of Jan 9.Today's high level meeting also decided to send in more security forces in and around Thawai Kuki village and entrusted Manipur Police to look into the possibility of setting up a security post in the village at a spot desire by the villagers.
The meeting also discussed keeping security posts close by and stepping up patrolling and frisking in different parts of the State to curb the activities of the underground organisations and ensure social security to the people, the source said.
