With security enhanced all over to check the growing violence during the last few days, Imphal West police rounded up a number of militants from different parts of Imphal during the last 48 hours.
Enumerating the achievements of the police, Imphal West SP today issued a statement stating that two PREPAK cadres were arrested during a search and cordon operation at Laphupat Tera on January 10.The two have been named as S Bhogendro alias Khoiba alias Ibungo (21) of Moreh Premnagar and Sagolsem Ashing alias Ricky (23) of Yumnam Huidrom.
The operation was led by the Addl SP of Imphal West.
On motor cycle, Bajaj Pulsar was recovered following the attack on the convoy of the CO of 2nd MR at Yurembam Makha Leikai on January 10 evening, said the statement and added that the motor cycle was used by the militants while throwing grenades at the security personnel.
The bike was recovered from Yurembam Awang Leikai and it has been established that it was hijacked from the owner identified as Ksh Kameshor Singh of Kongpal Chanam Leikai on January 10 at about 10 am by two persons who claimed themselves to be PLA cadres, added the statement.
A total of seven demand letters of the KYKL addressed to different businessmen of Thangal bazar were recovered during a raid at the house of one Nasunder (NS Gokulmani) staying at MLA hostel quarter number No I type IV today about 3.30 am, said the statement.
Gokulmani is employed as a Labour Officer in the office of the Labour Department, said police.
During interrogation, Gokulmani, as an agent of the KYKL, has admitted that four demand letters have already been served on four businessmen.
A case has been registered against the employee, added the statement.
Another raid led by the SP of Imphal West was also conducted today at 3.30 am at a rented house at Nagamapal and a KYKL cadre was arrested, said the statement.
The cadre is identified as Ngangom Pinku Singh (22) of Uripok Tourangbam Leikai.
On his disclosure police arrested two other militants, said police adding that one is a KYKL cadre while the other is a KCP member.
The KYKL cadre is identified as Huidrom Basu Singh (23) of Keishampat Mutum Leirak while the KCP man has been named as Ingudam Rajesh Singh (27) of Keishamthong Irom Pukhri Mapal.
Police further said that the two have admitted to collecting Rs 3000 from one tyre shop in Thangal bazar some days back.
