As the new species of orchid is found only in Tamenglong district, it has been named as Dendrobium Tamenglongense, he added.
Saying that the rate of discovery of new plant species is still low although Manipur comes under Indo-Burma Hotspot Zone, RK Kishor said that there is need for serious Government attention in this regard.
RK Kishor, who is also an orchid breading specialits, expressed worry that many indigenous and endangered plant species might get extinct before these have been discovered.
He also sought attention from Government and general public in this regard.
