Imphal, November 07 2016:
Stating that Union Minister of State for YAS Vijay Goel never talked about taking way National Sports University from Manipur, BJP Manipur Pradesh election management committee convenor Th Chaoba has asserted that National Sports University will remain in the State.
Speaking to media persons at their Nityaipat Chuthek office today, Chaoba said that it was the State Government which was delaying construction of sports university, not the Central Government.
The State Government should provide land required for establishment of National Sports University.
The construction work has been delayed for almost two months due to allotment of land mired in controversies.
The Bill which should be tabled in Parliament for establishment of National Sports University which should at par with international standard should give a clear definition of the land acquired for the purpose.
Rather than acquiring land as per the Land Acquisition Act, the State Government was purchasing land from owners directly.
Chaoba also asked as to why the State Government handed over 336.93 acres to the Sports Ministry as against 200 acres needed for establishment of National Sports University.
Apart from being a low-lying area, there are around 130 brick firms thereby polluting air in and around Yaithibi Loukon, Chaoba continued.
He said that National Sports University may be constructed at any other alternative provided it is free from controversies.
