Imphal, November 07 2016:
Agriculture Department has urged the general public not to burn crop residues as they contain various precious nutrients like potassium, phosphorus, nitrogen and organic carbon.
Burning crop residues will not only increases the soil temperature which will reduces natural soil microbes but also pollute the air.
The department suggested that instead of burning crop residues or straw, farmers can make use of them while vermicomposting.
It can be utilized in manufacturing board, paper or can be fed to cattle.
