While expressing grave concern over the hardship faced by the local populace in the aftermath of the ambush carried out yesterday by the underground PREPAK at Khonglong Kabui village under Sapermaina police station in Manipur, the Zeliangrong Union and the Zeliangrong Youth Front condemned the act and jointly appealed the underground groups to desist from carrying out any ambush in and around civilian area.
Stating that the innocent civilians of the area are the worst sufferers of the atrocities at the hands of the security forces after any ambush, the press hand out jointly signed by Sanachao Kamei, Chairman ZU Imphal zone and Poujeng Kamei, president ZYF (AMN) said that after the ambush carried out yesterday at Khonglong Kabui village, some of the villagers were beaten black and blue by the security forces.
It also said that houses were ransacked and even some livestock of the villagers were killed by the security personnel who retaliated the act of the undergrounds.
As such, it stated, most of the villagers had to fled for fear of another reprisal from the security forces, and only the oldies were left in the village.
The joint statement while pointing out that the ambush carried out yesterday was not the first time that the undergrounds have been executing an attack on security forces in Zeliangrong areas, it appealed the UG groups operating in the state to restrain from such act for the sake of peace and tranquillity in the area.
