After investigating the cause of death of livestock en masse, specially pigs, at Namtiram village in Tamenglong district from where report of outbreak of an unknown epidemic had come in, and collecting blood samples for further examination, a team of veterinary officials which had been camping at the village for three days arrived here yesterday.
The team of veterinary officers and staff led by Joint Director of District Veterinary Office, Tamenglong Dr Kh Inao Singh rushed in to Namtiram village on October 2 to find out the veracity of the report of outbreak of an unknown epidemic among the livestock, specially pigs there.
The veterinary team started inspection of the livestock house to house for examination and treatment since the early morning of October 3 and during a course of conducting PM examination of one piglet it was detected infection of the lung and intes tines with worms.
Consequently, vaccination of swine fever vaccine was started on the same day till October 4.Apart from collecting the blood, stool and sera samples of the pigs for further examination, the veterinary team had also administered necessary medicines to deworm the pigs in the village.
