To encourage investigative journalism in Manipur, Lamyanba Yawolloi NK Sanajaoba Memorial Observation Committee has instituted an award in memory and recognition of the contribution made by the late pioneering journalist during his lifetime in the field of print media.
To be called 'NK Sanajaoba Investigative Journalism Award', the award would be presented after every two years on the occasion of his death anniversary which falls on November 11 starting from next year.
The award would comprise of Rs 21,000 in cash, one citation and a shawl.
The criteria for selection of the awardee would be based on three subjects, namely investigative reportage on the atrocities committed on the people by those in power, reportage on corrupt practices of those in the power and reportage on ordeals of women fighting for the cause of social harmony against all odds.
The reportage either in the form of article or serial report should be within the word limit of 800 to 2500.Reportage published during the period from August 2006 to July 2008 would be eligible for the Ist NK Sanajaoba Investigative Journalism Award which would be presented on November 11, 2008.The applications for selection of the award should reach the office of theNK Sanajaoba Memorial Observation Com mittee located at the Sagolband Meino Leirak residence of Arambam Lokendra within July 31 of 2008.The reportage can be either written in English or Manipur and if it is in some other dialects of the native people, then the translation text of the same in either Manipur or English should be attached with the application.
Announcing instituting of the award and giving all these informations during a press conference at Manipur Press Club here this afternoon, chairperson of the NK Sanajaoba Memorial Observation Committee Arambam Lokendra explained that the main objective of instituting the award is to encourage journalists in the field of investigative journalism and enlighten the people though their reports.
