Ukhrul, November 04:
The aggrieved students union of Ukhrul Higher Secondary School (UHSS) has set November 7 as the dead line to fulfill its demands.
Expressing strong resentment over the lackadaisical attitude towards the UHSS in particular and Government schools of the hill districts in general, Nganingshing Chiphang, general secretary of the student body and the executive council today stated that despite an earlier meeting with the Chief Secretary on December 13 last year wherein the students were assured that their demands would be looked into promptly, with the CS even writing to the Commissioner (Edn/S) over the non-posting of a Principal and Vice Principal of Ukhrul Higher Secondary School nothing has materia-lised till date.
Till today, nearly 12 months after the assurance, a full fledged Principal and VicePrincipal had not been posted at UHSS while on the other hand the yearly examination is approaching.
Though UHSS is the lone Government Higher secondary school in the district headquarters it is running like a headless body.
Earlier, the student body, raising the same demands had launched a series of agitation including sit in protests, closing of the school office and boycotting the 15th August celebration this year.
The Government however has not bothered to consider the genuine grievances of the students, it asserted.
Construction work of the new school was completed before the actual scheduled time and the speedy completion of the work was appreciated by Chief Minister O Ibobi and the Chief Secretary equally during their last visit to Ukhrul.
However for reasons best known to the authority concerned, the inauguration of the school building is being delayed.
In this regard the Chief Secretary () had also asked the Education Department (school) to check the building of the school which was completed last year so that it could be handed over for which payment should be made to the contractor.
On the other hand the existing school building where the students are attending classes is leaking.
Since the Govt has not cleared the bill for the contractor, he had taken the school key with him.
However, the generosity and understanding of the contractor paved the way for the poor students of UHSS to take classes before the inaugural function of the school.
