Imphal, January 04 2012:
The United Villages and Clubs Organisation (UVACO) while alleging that security forces have been continuously harassing and detaining on and off its president Laishram Thoithoi, has sought the attention of the Home Department and appealed to ensure that Thoithoi can lead a peaceful life.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club this afternoon, UVACO general secretary Y Ningthemjao said that UVACO was set up in2007 under AMUCO and other civil organisations with the objective of strengthening the hill-valley relationship.
However, Laishram Thoithoi who has been associated with the organisations since its inception is being allegedly subjected to continuous harassment by security forces, Ningthemjao said.
He also condemned the act of arresting Thoithoi by security forces every now and then under false allegations.
Seeking immediate attention of the Home Department to stop harassment of the UVACO president under false allegations, Ningthemjao cautioned that a strong mass movement would be launched in case security forces go on harassing the innocent civilian.
Laishram Thoithoi who was also present at the press meet narrated how he was harassed by commandos in November 2010 and again by Sikh Regiment on December 30, 2011 .
Thoithoi was accused of having links with under ground groups, putting up flags of underground outfits groups and painting graffiti in support of insurgent groups during night.
"But I'm suffering from night-blindness and this was certified by Sankardeva Natralaya, Beltola, Guwahati", Thoithoi said further.
