Black day observation enters third day

Imphal, January 04 2012: On the third day of Black Day observation commemorating 283rd burning of Meitei ancient PUYA, members of All Manipur Rickshaw Drivers and Pullers Association (AMRDPA) and clients of Divine Light Centre wore black badges.

The Black Day observation is being organised by International Observation Committee on Puya Meithaba in association with Meitei National Front of Kangleipak and various civil society groups of the State to commemorate the incident of burning ancient Puyas on the 23rd day Manipuri month Wakching in the year 1729 .

In the observation held today at the office of All Manipur Rickshaw Drivers and Pullers Association, Th Kanta, president of the association, Salam Chingtamba, chief convenor ICOP and writer Ranjit Ningthouja attended as president and guest resource persons respectively.

Organised under the theme "Remember, review, revive for love, peace and integrity", 1318 members of AMRDPA wore black badges.

Speaking at the occasion, resource person Salam Chingtam Luwang mentioned that Manipur was an independent country which have its own language, scripts, culture and identity.

He maintained that the incident of burning ancient Puya occurred in the year 1729 during the reign of King Pamheiba at the instigation of Santidas Gosai who visited Manipur to spread Hinduism.

Ranjit Ningthouja said that the incident was an act of spoiling all the bases of Meitei language, scripts, culture and identity.

He further said that the main reason for not able to stand as free country is due to effect of that incident as it spoiled all the cultural particulars which could guide the people of the State.

Highlighting the value and importance that revealed from the observation, he further appealed that the people of this generation should take precautionary measures for preventing similar incident in future.

Meanwhile, a release issued by All Manipur Recognised Private Schools' Welfare Association informed that the Black day observation was also organised in 12 Schools situated from Khongman Mangjin to Pangei.

Black badges were given to the students of AIMS Hr Sec School, Cambridge Hr Sec School, Pioneer Academy, IMA Hr Sec School, Royal Academy of Science, Halleey Eng School, Sacred Heart School, Friendship Edc Academy, Leishemba Meheikol, Emmanuel Eng School, Success School and Shaming School respectively.
