Imphal, November 02 2010:
Highlighting various woes being faced by the people of Khengjoy Block due to absence of the Block Development Officer (BDO), the Kuki Movement for Human Rights (KMHR), Chandel district has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister with an appeal to send a replacement BDO to the block.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, KMHR Chandel District president Thangjalet Haokip said that office of Khengjoy BDO has been lying vacant since the incumbent BDO was transferred away about four/five months back.
The Khengjoy Block covering around 150 villages is one of the most backward blocks of Chandel district in terms of transport and communication infrastructure.
He appealed to the State Government to initiate necessary procedure to send a replacement BDO at the earliest.
There is neither any Government High School nor any health centre in the entire Khengjoy Block.
As such, the block remains quite backward in education and health care sectors too.
In the absence of any medical centre, villagers have been going to the hospital located in Khampat in neighbouring Myanmar at times of illness, conveyed Thangjalet Haokip.
