A driver of a freight truck coming from Dimapur has been kidnapped by suspected activists of KCP (MC) from Kangpokpi area on NH-39 .
Reports said that the driver of truck bearing registration no.AS01-R/6311 and identified as Lanba Hatra Bishwakarma (27) of Baramlipur, Assam was kidnapped near the Bin Parou village of Kangpokpi in connection with a monetary demand of Rs 90,000, reports said.
The driver was abducted on October 30 and is still in captivity of the kidnappers.
The truck belongs to one Luxman of Dimapur and it was headed to Imphal loaded with salt and dal.
The demand of Rs 90,000, was served after the driver waskidnapped by forcibly stopping the truck at Bin Parou village, the report added.
The vehicle has been seized by the Sapermaina police.
Whereabouts of the driver still remains untraced.
Police have registered a case and search operations are being conducted at suspected areas with the help of Assam Rifles to rescue the kidnapped driver, police sources said.
The kidnapping of the driver in connection with a monetary demand is one of many such incidents occurring on NH-39 even as state and Central government has been considering to set up a Highway Protection Force to control kidnappings, hijackings and other anti-social activities on this life line of the state.
