In view of the civic body elections scheduled in December, the State Cabinet has decided to propose to the Election Commission of India to hold the by election to Konthoujam AC within November or the first week of December.
By-election to the Konthoujam Assembly Constituency has been necessitated following the demise of incumbent Speaker Dr Sapam Budhichandra, who represented this AC.
Speaking to media persons after the Cabinet meeting, SPF Spokesperson N Biren said that the Cabinet was, however, considering proposing the by-election in January after the Bihar elections and completion of the ongoing electoral roll revision.
The Cabinet meeting also discussed the report submitted by the Committee of Officers headed by the Chief Secretary which probed into the controversies regarding DPC results for recruitment of Primary teachers.
But no concrete decision was adopted.
The report pointed out certain anomalies in the DPC results prepared for declaration.
Biren said that the Government would be taking a definite decision on the matter soon.
The Cabinet meeting also resolved that the proposed expansion of the road from Khoyathong to Lilasing Khongnangkhong would be 30 metres against the 25 metres decided earlier.
Likewise, other important roads would be expanded to a greater extent in consideration for posterity.
Regarding the proposed visit of UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi to the State scheduled on November 4, the SPF Spokesperson said that the trip has been deferred due to tight schedule of Sonia Gandhi.
The exact date for Sonia Gandhi's visit cannot be confirmed at the moment, Biren said.
