Pressing their demand for allotment of seats for 200 vendors at the three newly constructed multi-storey women's markets, Kabui women under the aegis of Kabui Mother Association (KAMA), Manipur staged a sit-in protest today in front of Zeliangrong building in Paona Bazar.
President of KAMA, Kakomlunglu Kameipui while talking to media persons at the protest side reiterated that KAMA will impose a general strike on the day of Sonia Gandhi's visit in the state if government fails to give a positive response to their demand.
She said that KAMA had drawn the attention of the Chief Minister on the matter when they submitted a memorandum to him on October 27.But no response has come from the government's side.
Kabui women have been demanding allotment of seats at the women market for the last four years since 2006.However, government is remaining silent till date, she lamented.
KAMA will make a petition to Sonia Gandhi and other leaders at the Centre drawing their attention in this regard.
They will also intensify their agitation, she added.
