Following strong directives from the Election Commission of India to hold elections for the State Congress party presidents in all the States of the country, election for the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president which had been delayed due to the 14th Lok Sabha election and general election in some States has been fixed on April 30, 2005 along with the other States of the country.
As a result of the declaration of the date, preparations for holding the elections have already begun at the grass root level in the State.
Meanwhile, Congress North East in charge Ramesh Chinitula will be arriving at Imphal on November 3 on a three day visit.
The Congress official will be minutely inspecting the preparation taken up by the Congress workers for the State Congress president election during his three day visit.
On the other hand, Anwar Taimur has been appointed as the Central Election Authority for the North Eastern States for the president election which has been fixed on April 30.Taimur is a former Chief Minister of Assam.
Oscar Fernandes has been put in charge of the Congress party's election process for the whole country.
Sources said that appointment of Pradesh Returning Officer for the State Congress party election is likely to be done after the arrival of Ramesh Chinitala on November 3.The source also said that Congress Vice president Takhellambam Gunadhaja, former Rajya Sabha MP W Angou and MLA RK Theko are likely to be the main contestants for the State Congress president's post and further informed that Chief Minister O Ibobi who is also the current president of the party is most unlikely to join the race for the president post as the Congress party follows the principle of "one man one post".
Sources further informed that a meeting of the Congress legislature party will be held at the Chief Minister's conference hall on November 3 at 4 pm immediately after the arrival of Ramesh Chinitala.
The meeting will mainly discuss on issues relating to the State Congress president election and the prevailing political scenario in the State.
It is also believed that grievances against the CM and important issues of the party might be raised up during the meeting.
A meeting of the PCC executive committee members will also be held at Congress Bhavan on November 4.District presidents and members of frontal organization of the Congress party will be attending the function.
Meanwhile, election for the AICC members will be held on April 30 2005.
