As in other parts of the world, the 2nd International Drug Users Day was also organized by different voluntary organizations here.
The North East India Harm Reduction Network and SASO organized the day's function at Natya Sangeet Mandir Vidyalaya where N Sarat of MACS, Medical Researcher of the University of Melbourne Michelle Kermode and general secretary of All Manipur NGO Forum, Y Surchandra attended as the chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
Coordinator of NEIHRN Basanta in his key note address highlighted the objectives of holding such a function adding that it is to give a platform to IDUs so that they may highlight their problems to social workers, political leaders and others concerned.
General secretary of SASO, L Birendrajit also presented a 15 point recommendation under four broad heads-issues of drug use treatment, issues on service provision from NGOs and health care settings to drug users, issues on general health for drug users and issue of stigma and discrimination towards drug users and people living with HIV/AIDS.
The Manipur Injecting and Illicit Drug Users League also organized a function in connection with the day at Nagamapal Soram Leikai under the theme "Better Treatment for a Better Life".
