JNIMS doctors take care of Covid positive woman

A 60-year-old woman, who lost both her husband and two sons to Covid except for her daughter and later tested positive for the same was successfully treated by JNIMS doctors.
Speaking to newspersons in this regard, JNIMS Anaesthesia Department head Dr Thoibahenba informed that Potshangbam Medhabati of Keishamthong Moirangningthou Leikai lost her husband Chaoba and one of her sons to Covid in July.
Shortly after, she tested positive for Covid-19 and was admitted to JNIMS with her daughter as caretaker.
Doctors later found her daughter crying at the veranda of the hospital unable to bear the condition of her mother.
After talking to the daughter, the doctors came to know that both her father and two brothers had died from Covid and that she was unable to pay the medical expenses of her ailing mother, who was close to death.
The doctors promptly informed JNIMS director Prof Deven who assured of bearing the medical expenses of her mother.
Other doctors at the hospital also came forward and extended financial aid to help in the treatment.
Dr Thoibahenba further conveyed that necessary treatment is being provided to Medhabati, who had been having some breathing problems.
In addition, TOCILIZUMAB, an injection costing Rs 8000 but not available in the hospital, has been purchased and is being used to treat her.
The said medicine is to be injected in 5 doses.
At present, Medhabati is being treated in the ICU of Covid Ward and her condition is stable, he conveyed, while adding that further medical expenses will be borne by the director and doctors of the hospital.
