Imphal, July 30 2021:
Pointing out that the appointment of a permanent vice-chancellor of Manipur University (MU) has been the wish of the people of the state, Manipur People's Party (MPP) urged the new VC Prof N Lokendra to strive for uplift of the varsity to international standard and enhance its profile.
In a release, MPP vice-president Dr S Ibomcha said that MU has failed to find a place in the academic performance ranking of universities in the country for the last many years.
The varsity had also been administered by VC in-charge for the last three years, he pointed out, while lauding the initiative and efforts of president Ram Nath Kovind, PM Narendra Modi, education minister, CM N Biren, union minister of state for external affairs and education Dr RK Ranjan and MP Sanajaoba for the appointment of Prof Lokendra as the new vice chancellor of the university.
He observed that apart from being an ideal teacher, Prof Lokendra is a person who is well versed in the administration of the varsity.
During his 35 years in the varsity, he played major roles in the administration of the varsity for more than 20 years.
Recalling the days of MU under VC KJ Mahale (1984-1990) where teachers and students focused on development of their respective departments as well as on library education from 10 am to 2 pm daily, Ibomcha said that the varsity could achieve international standard of excellence only when such vibe is revived.
He appealed to the new VC to be far-sighted so as to ensure development of the university and also exhorted MUSU, MUTA, MUSA, other associations in the varsity, student organisations of the state and the government to extend all possible help to MU towards achieving the international standard excellence in higher education.
