Imphal, July 30 2021:
Many tribal civil society organisations of the State have expressed their dismay and shock over the alleged derogatory remarks and comments circulated via various social media groups which were made upon the six times World Champion, boxing legend MC Mary Kom.
The Federation of All Tribal Youth Club, Manipur (FATYCM); Zeliangrong Baudi, Manipur; Zeliangrong Youth Front (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland); Zeliangrong Students Union Manipur; and Chiru Naga Union General HQ, in a joint statement issued today informed that the alleged derogatory remarks were seen circulating after the unfortunate defeat of MC Mary Kom against the Colombian boxer, Ingrit Valencia in Tokyo Olympic 2020. The CSOs appealed to the Government of Manipur to not remain a mute spectator when some people are spreading the messages of hatred via social media groups which may be detrimental to the fragile social fabrics of the State.
It stated that MC Mary Kom is a Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha and represented the country in Tokyo Olympic, therefore any derogatory remarks against her is an insult to the country and a Parliamentarian which deserves to be booked for severe punishment as per the law.
The Tribal civil society organisations also hailed the boxing legend and stated that the tribal people in particular are proud of the boxer's achievements.
