A Nagaland police constable has been arrested along with his service AK-56 rifle by 42 Assam, Rifles from Pallel under Thoubal district.
An official source said that a team of 42 Assam Rifles under 26 Sector arrested the constable at round 8 am yesterday while he was roaming around Pallel area in full police uniform along with his service rifle.
The police constable was identified as Bendang Nungsang (28), constable No 10632, of Alichen, Nagaland.
Three magazines of AK-56 along with 86 live rounds were also recovered from the possession of the arrested constable.
The source further informed that Bendang Nungsang came to Manipur along with an escort team of BM Manel, a retired IAS officer and a member of NPF's coordination committee of Manipur Unit.
Manel along with an escort team were coming for campaigning NPF candidates of Chandel district, added the source.
The arrested constable along with the recoveries were handed over to Kakching police station.
An enquiry has been set up to look into the matter on how the constable was in Pallel and the reason for not informing authority concerned when the NPF leader entered the State boundary with his guards, added the source.
