News Delhi, January 25, 2012:
On the Occasion of the 61st Republic Day of India, the President of India announced the Padma Awards-2012, the country's highest civilian awards in three categories, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri.
These comprise five Padma Vibhushan, 27 Padma Bhushan and 77 Padma Shri Awards and there are 19 ladies among the awardees.
Among the list were Padma Vibhushan for Late (Dr) BhupenHazarika (Assam) in Art-Vocal Music and Padma Shri for Smt Nameirakpam Ibemni Devi (Manipur) in Art-Music-Khongjom Parba, Shri Sunil Janah (Assam) Art-Photography and Dr.Ralte L.Thanmawia (Mizoram) in Literature and Education.
