CM moots effective traffic control

While exuding confidence that entry of Tata Motors' diesel run four-wheeler Tata Iris in the State would benefit many educated un-employed youths, chief Minister O Ibobi Singh strongly advocated effective traffic system and adopting certain criteria on sale of vehicles.
Speaking as the chief guest at the launching ceremony of Tata Iris at MG avenue today, the Chief Minister noted that ever growing number of new vehicles in the state had been creating traffic problem, particularly in the capital city areas.
He desired that Transport Department put in place a viable mechanism to restrict number of vehicles.
Further pointing out that number of four-wheelers in the Manipur has increased considerably in the recent past, Ibobi nevertheless opined that with prices of most 4-wheelers ranging between Rs 4-5 lakhs, the four-seater Tata iris costing Rs 1.95 lakhs will have many buyers.
'Conceding that most roads/streets in the State are narrow, he prevailed upon the Transport Department authorities for restricted issuance of license or registration besides suggesting that traffic control department take up effective measures to ease traffic congestion in the capital city without compromising on the accessibility to the commercial area.
Chief Minister Okram Ibobi also mooted introduction of a lottery system to limit number of new vehicles.
Among others State unit NCP president and former Chief Minister Radhabinod Koijam, Thongju Assamebly Constituency MLA Bijoy Koijam and Health Minister L Jayanta Kumar were also present at the launching programme.
