20th Thangjing Aircrash memorial function observed

The Thangjing Air crash Memorial committee, Chingamakha Imphal observed the 20th Death Aniversary Memorial Function in memory of the air crash victims who died on the 16th of August 1991 today at Chingamakha at the residence of I Hemochandra, Speaker, Manipur Legislative Assembly.
People paid floral tributes to the photos of ex-Dy Chief Minister Irengbam Tompok, ex-MLA Keisham Bira and others who lost their lives in the crash.
A two minute silence was also observed as a mark of respect to the departed souls.
The function was graced by Chief Minister Okram Ibobi, MPCC President Gaikhangam and Power Minister Phunjathang Tonsing as the Chief Guest, President and Guest of Honour restively.
Speaking at the occasion, Chief Minister O Ibobi said that the untimely death of a person like I Tompok is a great loss to the state.
But we cannot just keep on lamenting his demise.
Instead we should all come together and finish the work he had started so that his soul could rest in peace.
Expressing concern over the demand of Sadar Hills District hood Demand Committee, he further said that their demand is legitimate considering the administrative convenience.
This is not only true for Sadar Hills but also for Jiri, Ukhrul and Churchandpur.
But since Manipur is a land inhabited by various communities, one cannot fulfill the demands of a particular community and cause problem for another section of a community.
No doubt the demands made by them are age long, but they cannot only blame the Congress led government.
They should also consider to the point as to why didn't the past government comply to their demands.
"A doctor cannot cure a disease of a person and inflict another disease to the same person", he said.
There is a huge gap between the expectations of the people from the government and the limitations of the MLAs.
As such the government is not able to fulfill all the demands of the people, he said.
Delivering the presidential speech, Gaikhangam said that I Tompok was a courageous, truthful and able leader of the state.
He had always stood for the truth and does what is best for his people.
People have recognized his relevance now.
He was a great son of Manipur.
I Hemochandra said that Manipur has developed in all aspects recently though lots have to be achieved yet.
The government is further taking up developmental works in the state for the welfare of the people.
The function was also attended by PHED Minister, N Biren, Dy Speaker Th Lokeshore, MLA T Mangibabu, MLA Dr Ratankumar, MLA O Landhoni, MLA Hemanta and MLA Bijoy Koijam.
