Although the State Cabinet resolved to approach the Governor to convene the 8th session of the 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly from August 26, it is reported that the State Assembly's Business Advisory Committee (BAC) would decide how many days the session would last.
Mushrooming of private schools in the State was one agenda which figured prominently at the Cabinet meeting.
After discussing about monitoring the private schools strictly, the State Cabinet gave its approval to the Manipur Private School (Registration and Regulation) Rules, 2019.According to UDISE 2017-18 data, there are 4697 schools in the State.
These include 2149 schools under Education (S), 954 private schools, 585 Government-aided schools, 950 schools under ADCs and 59 KV/JNV/KGBV schools.
The Manipur Private School (Registration and Regulation) Act, 2019 was enacted with the primary objective of properly monitoring private schools.
Draft rules of the Act were discussed at the Cabinet meeting today and they were approved by the State Cabinet, said the sources.
It is said that the Manipur Private School (Registration and Regulation) Rules, 2019 would be quite helpful in monitoring private schools in the State, most of which are being run as business enterprises, apart from ensuring that these schools have the requisite infrastructure.
