A voluntary non-Government private school, the Makui Ashang Indira Public School which was also the only educational institution in the area has been completely squashed by a heavy windstorm on August 25 afternoon at around 2:10 pm.
However, the more than 130 students enrolled in the school were not at the school due to Janmaashtami holiday when the windstorm struck and brought the school down to the ground.

The Makui Ashang Indira Public School located around 45/50 Kms away from Kangpokpi town in the remote area of Irang Part-II in Twilang area under Kangpokpi AC was voluntarily run by the local populace since 2003-04 while it covered more than three villages.
Apart from the five room school building constructed by the local populace, the heavy windstorm also damaged most of the school infrastructure including benches, desks, chairs, blackboard, etc.
provided through humble voluntary contribution of the public.
Nayaran Adhikari, member of Makui Ashang Village Authority, Irang Part-II said that the school children have been compelled to stop schooling since no other alternative accommodation could be arranged immediately while the local leaders and the voluntary school authority are hard put to restore the school building.
He continued that if the school building is not restored at the earliest the education of more 130 economically backward students enrolled in the school could be badly affected.
