Imphal, August 29 2016:
Peeved with the injuries inflicted on drivers and the damage of nine oil tankers by blockade supporters on NH-2 yesterday, All Manipur Petroleum Tankers Drivers' Union has launched an indefinite steering-off stir from today.
Due to the stir, Chingmeirong oil depot has stopped operation from 10.30 am today, said a source.
In a statement, the union said that around 100 oil and bullet gas tankers were escorted by a CRPF convoy from Khatkhati yesterday.
After reaching Mao, the convoy was joined by around 200 goods laden trucks, the statement said.
The CRPF team could not cover all the vehicles and some drivers were injured and nine tankers damaged as a large number of blockade supporters rained stones and sligshot projectiles on the vehicles between Mao and Mayangkhang, the statement said.
The State Government and IOC had agreed to provide separate security escorts to oil and gas bullet tankers some days back, the union said.
