Zomi Nam Ni festivity begins early

Several events which mark the onset of Zomis' most celebrated festival the Zomi Nam Ni � would be rolled out soon as organizers prepare to augment the festival's charm this year and suffix the words 'Mithun Festival' after the long-established terminology.
Zomi Nam Ni is a calendar festival for the Zomi community and it falls on February 20 .
An open football tournament to mark the 67th Zomi Nam Ni cum Mithun Festival was kicked-off later today at Lamka Public Ground with Singngat MLA Ginsuanhau formally opening the tournament which will culminate on February 17 .
The tournament winner will be given a living Mithun besides cash and other incentives, said Khenchin, the organizing Secretary.
Another football tournament under the name Zomi Premier League will be held at New Delhi in between February 20 and 22 as a part of the annual festival.
Last Saturday, a competition on sketching portraits of Zomi leaders was organized as part of the festivities at SSA residential school where 112 participants drew many impressive portraits.
Another competition on modern and folk songs was organized at Dorcas Hall auditorium yesterday.
In all, 23 composers have submitted the songs they have written with 17 vying for the modern category and another 6 joining the folk (Zangta and Saan nem La) category.
