Fitting tributes paid to Rani Gaidinliu

Befitting tributes were paid to freedom fighter Haipi Rani Gaidinliu on the occasion of her birth centenary celebration held under the aegis of Kabui Mothers' Association (KAMA), Manipur at the auditorium of Manipur Film Development Corporation (MFDC), Palace Compound here on Wednesday.
Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam were respectively chief guest and president of the function which was also attended by Deputy Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly ML Preshow Shimray, Chairman of Planning and Development Authority T Mangibabu, MLA of Saikot A/C TN Haokip, MLA of Kakching A/C Y Surchandra Singh and president of KAMA Kakomlunglu Kamei as guests of honour.
Apart from offering floral tributes to the photograph of Rani Gaidinliu, a souvenir was also released to mark the occasion.

Speaking as chief guest of the function, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh observed that younger generation should get inspiration from freedom fighters like Rani Gaidinliu who were ready to sacrifice their lives for the cause of the nation.
The sacrifices made by Rani Gaidinliu and Haipou Jadonang were no less in any degree to the sacrifices made by other Indian freedom fighters, he said.
Referring to a memorandum submitted by KAMA, the Chief Minister assured that the State Government would extend its support towards ensuring installation of a statue of Rani Gaidinliu at an appropriate site in Greater Imphal area.
In his presidential address, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam recalled that Rani Gaidinliu was just 13 years of age when she took up the cudgel of fighting against the injustices meted out to her people by the British colonial ruler and she spent 14 years in jail for that.
This fact should not be forgotten by the people, specially the younger generation, he added.
On the occasion, Prof Meijinlung Kamei and Dr Lokendro Arambam also spoke on the life and works of Rani Gaidinliu.
The birth centenary celebration of Rani Gaidinliu was also reportedly organised by ZB, AMN on 26th January, 2015 at her birth place, Luangkao Part I, Tousem sub-division, Tamenglong district, where over 700 delegates from different places assembled, lighted candles and paid floral tributes at the grave of the veteran freedom fighter.
Offering of homage and oblation to God Almighty by Heraka followers, displayed of folk songs, cultural dances, and recitations with traditional gaiety were the main highlights of the function which was participated by D.P.Panmei, former P.A to Ranima & former Minister of Manipur state and Ningthaodai Gonmei, former president of AZSU as Chief Guest and Guest of Honour respectively.
