Imphal, January 28 2015:
Saying that the recent move of the Health Ministry to allow Dr Sekharjit to re-join RIMS on certain terms when enquiries (Departmental and CBI) are going on in full swing will put a question mark on the sincerity of the Ministry which once took a strong decision to wipe out corruption from RIMS Imphal, the Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene and prohibit Dr Sekharjit from re-joining RIMS until the ongoing enquiries are fully completed.
This move of the Ministry is contradictory to the wisdom of the Prime Minister who believes in a corruption free India and also his vision on "Act East" policy for the improvement of the region including this regional medical institute, reads a memorandum submitted by DESAM to the Prime Minister.
DESAM is aware that Dr Sekharjit has approached high officials in the Ministry and even used pressure techniques in various communication formats including email letter to the Prime Minister by impersonating himself as journalists or politicians so that he can be reinstated.
Undue delay to frame charge sheet against Dr Sekharjit by the CBI is seen as a possible power play, it claimed.
Since there is already a high level of distrust between Dr Sekharjit and staff at RIMS, Dr Sekharjit's rejoining this institute on uncertain terms will surely develop an unavoidable chaotic situation.
The people at large do not believe in such a tainted administrator any more, specially in the health sector which directly deals with life and death.
Dr Sekharjit Singh, Ex-Director, RIMS Imphal was relieved from the post of Director, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal (RIMS) by the Ministry on August 25, 2014 to initiate a free and fair investigation on the various charges of corruption against him.
The Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) which works extra time to wipe out corruption from the educational institutes/ organisations in Manipur spearheaded the ouster of Dr Sekharjit by raising at least 12 strong charges of corruption against him in a memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister/Union Health Minister dated June 19, 2014 .
DESAM also appealed to the Prime Minister to stop Dr Sekharjit from joining the institute on any uncertain terms in any capacity.
"Because of the extensive damage done by Dr Sekharjit and his wife Dr Damayanti during his tenure as Director RIMS, our stand to remove him from the post of Director, RIMS until he comes out clean from corruption charges will remain.
If a clean RIMS is a vision, then Dr Sekharjit should not find any place in RIMS in the times to come", the student body stated categorically.
