Imphal, January 28 2015:
Just like helicopters are used in major counter insurgency operations in Manipur, helicopters should be pressed into action in tackling unlawful activities along National Highways, urged Janata Dal (United), Manipur State unit.
Speaking to media persons at their Babupara office today, JD-U president M Tombi said that helicopters should be used in combating criminal activities like murder and abduction which happen every now and then along National Highways in the State as was done in the recent military operation against insurgents at Pumlenpat.
There is also an urgent need to set up Highway Protection Force for securing National Highways passing through Manipur.
JD-U Manipur unit would submit a detailed report of all the unlawful and criminal activities that take place along Imphal-Dimapur highway to the three Union Ministers who are scheduled to arrive here tomorrow.
A team of JD-U Manipur unit would also call on Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari at Delhi in the first week of February, and apprise him about the chronic issue.
Tombi further appealed to all concerned to set free the two truck drivers and their helper abducted from Lalmati, Nagaland.
