To mark the resumption of UNIDEP (Unity, Development and Peace) Campaign in Chandel district, a free medical camp was organised at Moreh as a part of the campaign.
Briefing media persons, convenor of the UNIDEP Campaign Organising Committee Yangsosong Koireng said the free medical campaign was organised in response to call by people of Moreh for such a camp following outbreak of unknown disease in the border town recently.
Considering the strategic importance of Moreh both for Manipur and India which is also inhabited by different ethnic groups together, the Campaign aims at bringing about understanding, peace, unity among the different communities and also development in the border town.
Yangsosong also conveyed desire to organise free medical camps in remote villages away from Moreh where there is no medical facility or transport infrastructure.
The medical camp organised at Moreh Super Market was attended by 972 people from different areas of Moreh including remote villages.
The camp was conducted by five doctors of Moreh Hospital.
One Paovai Vaiphei (72) of Moreh ward no 3 hailed the UNIDEP Organising Committee for the medical camp.
"I'm grateful for the camp as it not only gave me the opportunity to examine my health thoroughly but also provided me medicines free of cost", he aged man said.
Later in the evening, UNIDEP Campaign committee distributed 20 quintals of rice and two barrels of SK oil to Moreh denizens, particularly to those below poverty line.
