Newly elected members and Pradhans of Zilla Parishad and Gram Panchayat have been accorded warm welcome during a function organised by Manipur State Panchayat Parishad (MSPP) at the office complex of Imphal East DC today with Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Md Allauddin Khan as chief guest.
Th newly elected Pradhans and members of Zilla Parishad and Gram Panchayats were present at the occasion.
Speaking at the occasion, Minister Allauddin Khan said power would be devolved to the Panchayat, but the elected representatives should utilise the fund released for the development of the rural areas with sincerity.
The Minister said that along with expanding the scope and purview of the Panchayat Raj, around Rs 26 crores has been earmarked for taking up developmental works.
The Minister appealed to stop the trend of spending lots of money not only during election time but also while clamouring for the post of Adhyaksha or Up-Pradhan.
It is but natural that the money spend on the getting the posts would be tried to recover from the fund released for the developmental work, the Minister said, while explaining that without development of the rural areas, we cannot say a State has been rally developed.
Keeping in mind the development of one's own villages, the elected representatives should work with dedication, he said while assuring that the Govt is aware of th fact that the honorarium being given to the members is not enough and the Govt would definitely try to increase the amount.
He also spoke on India Awaz Yojana , SYRY, Bharat Nirman and other developmental works.
Director of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Y Neta, Chief Advisor of MSPP Prof N Mohendra and Secretary K Tomba were also present at the occasion.
