Imphal, March 24 2014:
The Left and Secular Alliance (LSA) formed by nine political parties with the primary objective of fighting the Lok Sabha election collectively has broken apart even before the process of filing nomination papers is over.
JD-U, one of the constituent partners, today declared that the days of LSA are over.
Taking a u-turn, JD-U has also decided to support Trinamool Congress candidate in Inner Manipur P/C in place of CPI's Dr M Nara.
However, in Outer Manipur P/C, JD-U and TMC would go for friendly contest.
Speaking to media persons at their Babupara office this afternoon, JD-U State unit president M Tombi blamed the Left parties for the sudden collapse of the alliance.
It was their (Left parties) activities at thwarting any move to form a third front which led to the break down of LSA, Tombi said.
He said that he has resigned from his post of media in-charge of the now dissolved LSA.
Taking advantage of the announcement that CPI's Dr M Nara is the common candidate of the alliance, CPI showed the audacity of supporting NCP candidate in Outer Manipur P/C even though NCP was not a partner of the alliance.
The same party earlier turned down the invitation to join the alliance.
It was this arrogance of CPI which was primarily responsible for the alliance's sudden collapse.
JD-U has relieved itself off all the responsibilities it volunteered to take for victory of the CPI candidate in Inner Manipur P/C.The party would support TMC's Sarangthem Manaobi alias Khoiranthaba without any condition, Tombi said.
However, in Outer Manipur P/C, JD-U's Lien Gangte and TMC's Kim Gangte would contest the Lok Sabha election in friendly manner.
Condemning the Left parties' decision adopted in their own interest on March 19, Tombi said that the same contemptible decision left all secular parties disappointed.
TMC candidate Sarangthem Manaobi remarked that JD-U's unconditional support is a good fortune for Manipur and it would further reinforce the conviction to protect Manipur.
Lien Gangte pledged that he would work for ensuring tribal rights, initiation of peace talk between Government and UG groups under SoO pact and withdrawal of AFSPA from Manipur in case he gets elected.
