Halang Aze ostracised

A public meeting held today at TNL ground here against the killing of Huining Ato village chairman, Abner Varah on Monday by nearby villagers decided to ostracise Halang Aze villagers, reports our correspondent.
The public meeting today was attended by six village headmen of the district including Hunphun, Talui, Phadang, Ngainga and Somdal among others.
Some village headmen and villagers were reportedly prevented through coercion by Halang Aze villagers from participating in the public meet today.
Meanwhile, the gatherings also strongly condemned the act of killing the chairman while also sharing the grief of the deceased villagers.
The meeting also denounced the Ukhrul PS action in leaving the village of Halang Aze after just getting verbal assurance for the release of the abducted chairman and secretary of Huining Ato yesterday while demanding appropriate action against the police men for alleged dereliction of duty.
The public meeting also demanded payment of Rs 20 lakh to the family of the murdered village chairman as ex-gratia.
At the same time, the secretary of Huining Ato village who was abducted along with the chairman has been freed with maimed body.
He is referred to Imphal for treatment.
A close-door meeting was held at Tangkhul Naga Long office here till the time of filing this report.
The chairman of Huining Ato village, Abner Varah was found murdered after being abducted by armed villagers of Halang Aze yesterday.
He is survived by his wife and five children.
