Senapati, February 11 2014:
/, Feb 11: Former Lok Sabha MP from Manipur Outer Parliamentary seat Mani Charenamei said he will be contesting as an independent candidate in the coming Lok Sabha poll.
Today's statement of Mani Charenamei was significant as a leading local daily had said the former MP is lobbying for Naga People's Front (NPF) ticket.
"Will work as an independent candidate because it is a better platform for the betterment of the Nagas", said Mani Charenamei, in his consultative meeting held at TNK community hall, Senapati today.
He has declared to contest as an independent candidate for Outer Manipur Parliamentary seat for the upcoming Lok Sabha election.
The meeting was attended by village chairmen, secretaries, student leaders, social workers and many other leaders from various villages of Senapati district.
Charenamei appealed the gathering to work for the development of the Nagas.
He alleged that he refused to join the BJP and the Congress party because 'working independent' has more advantage for the Nagas.
He praised the objective of the Naga Peoples Front (NPF) but added that an independent candidate has more provision to present issues in the Parliament.
He stated, "I will support the peace process to bring peace among the Nagas as well for the others who work for peace.
We have been hoping to see peace for the last many years and it is in our hand to make that happens".
The candidate was confident that he would win the election as not only the Nagas supported him but the other communities including the Meeteis too considered him as a suitable candidate.
This is the third consultative meeting of Mani Charenamei.
He had held such programmes in Ukhrul, Tamenglong and Chandel.
