Call for student power echoes at MSUM anniversary

Along with participation by leaders of various student and civil organisations, the first foundation day of Muslim Students' Union of Manipur (MSUM) was observed at the hall of Lilong Haoreibi College, Lilong Ushoipokpi today.
At the occasion, outstanding teachers and students were felicitated with gifts.
Delivering the key note address of the function, vice president of MSUM Md Iqbal Sheikh said that MSUM has been set up for the welfare of Muslim student community and the society at large.
He pointed out that development of education is a must in this age of science and technology and it should be the collective responsibility for all.
Similarly, promotion of education among the Muslim community should be the priority and every Muslim in Manipur should exert pressure on the authorities concerned for looking after the required infrastructure for development of education, he exhorted.
He also expressed serious concern over the problem of drug abuse among the Muslim youths in Manipur today.
Participating in the function, vice president of United Committee Manipur (UCM) acknowledged that Muslim brethren have been contributing their mite in various important issues of the State and said that this shows the close relation among all the communities living in Manipur.
Assistant general secretary of All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM) Robert Pachu, who was also present and spoke at the occasion, said that student community in Manipur should work together in leading the society to the right direction.
Asserting that the system of education in Manipur today is at its lowest ebb, Robert pointed out that students have not been able to study in peace.
The rot that has eaten into the education system should be rectified while there is time.
Speaking on the same line, president of Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur LC Santosh said that improvement of education system is essential for complete education of students.
The flaw in the system is due to lack of able leadership and the present lot of leaders should be taught a lesson, he added.
General secretary of All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) Md Alamgir observed that there is close relation between the Meitei Muslims and Meiteis in Manipur.
Matrimonial relationship that used to be there between the two community has cemented this inalienable bond.
The president of All Manipur Muslim Pangal Women's Organisation Anwari Nurjahan observed that Muslim community in Manipur have been participating in every important issues.
Yet they have not been made any significant contribution.
So, Muslims should play active role and participate in creating the history of Manipur.
The president of Jamiatul-ul-ma, Manipur Alhaj Moulana Syed Ahemed and president of MSUM Md Habib-ur-Rahman were also among those who spoke at the function.
