Auto-driver kidnapper killed by police

Imphal, January 31, 2011:
A man, who had allegedly kidnapped an auto-driver demanding Rs.7 lakh, was shot dead by the police near his house today.
Reports said, Md Islau Rahman (30) of Lilong Sambukhong succumbed to his injury inflicted in the leg when police opened fire, while he was trying to escape.
With a bullet injury in his right leg, police rushed him to Shija Hospital around 1 pm.
Later, he was declared dead due to excessive bleeding at 4 pm.
A Lilong police team rushed to the house of the Islau Rehman when they got specific information of him coming to his house around 11.30 am today.
On seeing the policemen, he ran away towards a paddy field near his residence.
The police chased to arrest him.
When he failed to respond to the police who asked him to stop, the policemen had to open fire on him, a police report said.
On January 12, the house of Islau Rehaman, an activist of an UG group, was ransacked by a mob on the alleged charge of involving in the kidnapping of an auto-driver, Potshangbam Sanajaoba (28) son of Pishak of Lamboi Khongnangkhong presently residing at a rented house near the JNIMS Hospital, Porompat.
