The Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has finally given permission to the Manipur Industrial Development Corporation (MANIDCO) for import of 30,000 metric tonnes of rice on zero duty from Myanmar within September 30 this year.
A reliable source in MANIDCO informed that the DGFT directed the Guwahati based Joint DGFT last month to give the requisite permission for import of rice from Myanmar.
Subsequently, the Joint DGFT issued the requisite permission.
It is reported that most of the ground level process for import of 30,000 metric tonnes of rice from Myanmar have been completed.MANIDCO would be holding a meeting with the Board of Directors soon to choose the firm(s) which would be entrusted with the task of importing rice from Myanmar.
However, only those firms which have their counterparts in Myanmar would be eligible for the transport contract, informed the source.
Notably, the period for import of rice from Myanmar on zero duty was extended by one full year as the period specified earlier for the same task expired on September 30 last year.
