Imphal, January 31, 2011:
Reacting to the assertion made by IOC's Director (Marketing) GC Daga that there has been improvement in the stock position of fuel in Manipur, during his short visit to Imphal yesterday, president of Transporters and Drivers' Council H Ranjit has denounced it as' a big lie to the people of Manipur'.
Talking to mediapersons at the MG Avenue Council office today, Ranjit said that the assertion of the IOC's Director (Marketing), who knew nothing about the situation here, deserved to be condemned strongly by all the people.
Contrary to what the IOC's Director (Marketing) had claimed, 167 Tata trucks have to leave for Jiribam today for lifting rice and other essential commodities after filling up only around 100 litres of diesel as there is shortage of diesel, Ranjit pointed out, adding that the fuel for the return journey is to be filled from Rongpur, Assam.
It is unfortunate that a responsible official of the OIC had to take the people of Manipur for a ride with the false claim of having adequate stock of fuel in the State, Ranjit decried.
He further lamented that despite the assurance of the BRTF, there has been no sign of improvement on the condition of National Highway 52 and looking at the present stage, it would liking hoping against home to see improvement of the road by the end of February as the BRTF has assured.
Officials of the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways should instruct the BRTF to ensure improvement of the road at least to the level where vehicles can ply properly if not black-topping before the onset of rainy season, Ranjit appealed.
Furthermore, he informed that there has been no change in the stand on the stand of Council not to ply goods carriers on National Highway 39.
